Background John Stralen graduated with honors from California Western School of Law, an ABA Accredited law school in San Diego, California. While in law school, he participated in a full-time, semester long trial advocacy program at the San Diego County District Attorney's office. He was also on the school's law review.
John Stralen has handled personal injury and business tort cases for the last 14 years since he became an attorney in 1994. He started his career working for insurance companies and large corporations defending personal injury and business tort claims. He left his career as a defense attorney and opened his own firm in September of 1999. At the time, he was dissatisfied with what he perceived as questionable, and at times unethical, insurance company and corporate tactics routinely being employed in disputing valid injury and tort claims. He is now dedicated to exclusively representing individuals and small businesses in personal injury and business tort matters. Representative Cases Since 1999, John Stralen has successfully recovered millions in settlements and verdicts for his hundreds of personal injury and small business clients. His primary focus is on personal injury cases. He has successfully handled all types of injury cases including catastrophic injuries and wrongful death. However, he is mindful of the client's need for representation regardless of the extent of the client's injuries, and he accepts all types of cases with merit even if the injury is less severe. He is dedicated to ensuring client satisfaction, a practice that has gained him a variety of accolades and testimonials from his past clients. Interesting cases in which John Stralen has been involved include by all accounts what was his successful defense of a small business that was being accused of various business torts by the California State Automobile Association Insurance Company (also known as AAA Insurance Company). CSAA was suing his client for claimed damages in excess of 30 million dollars. The case entitled CSAA v. Unique Performance was tried over four months and involved separate stages of trial, including extensive pre-trial law and motion, a three week bench trial, and over two months of jury trial. He established new law in another case where he represented a resident property manager who sued a large property management company for minimum wage and overtime violations. His client alleged improper wage payment practices, which the defendant denied. John Stralen filed and won a Plaintiff's motion for summary judgment establishing defendant's liability for unpaid wages before trial, leaving the amount of wages owed to his client as the only issue for trial. The case resulted in the following published opinion, Brock v. Carrion Ltd., 332 F.Supp.2d 1320 (2004). Community Involvement John Stralen is an active member of the Community. Professionally, he is a member of the Sacramento Bar Association, the Capital City Trial Lawyers Association, and the Consumer Attorneys of California. He is a former member of his church parish's pastoral council and currently a member of the Catholic School Advisory Commission. John Stralen is an avid supporter of youth sports programs. He coaches a competitive U-12 girls soccer team, and he is a founding Director of the Elk Grove Futsal Club, a non-profit indoor youth soccer league.
